WIP Wednesday: the one with sprinting

It's been a month of finishes - or it will be, once I actually quilt and bind my two show quilts. Rush rush, time's getting on!

Complete! (With butt-stamp of approval by cat.)

A glimpse of the 'feature' block:

I think I'll go with the bees and the butterflies and the flowers to separate them...

The Promises Of Spring

a.k.a. "The Snowflake Block quilt"

Y-seams are exhausting things; especially when you've cut the corners on your blocks!

I swear this quilt is mostly fixes. It'll look fantastic...as long as you're standing back... #snowflakeblock

But the overall effect is pretty stunning:

Never speak to me of y-seams ever again. EVER. #snowflakeblock

Although I'm not looking forward to filling all that whitespace - especially since I tore a muscle in my left calf at hockey on Sunday and am now limping through life - and will be limping for at least the next month... Free-motion quilting on a longarm is usually a breeze...this time, it's probably going to be a chore...

Very little progress on this and no photos...

Do you ever get depressed by how productive other bloggers are? Those women who have photo after photo after photo of quilting and crafty things in a neverending stream? I'm feeling a little flat about my own output lately.

So how are your WIPs going? Linked up to one of the linky posts of the week?

  1. I used to get a wee bit depressed with the productivity of other bloggers but I'm over that now. Everyone is different, some people have loads of time to create and others have limited time, I just do what I'm happy to do nowadays and if it isn't very much then I'm OK with that.

Loving your Swarm quilt and I like the idea of the three different backing fabrics, maybe with the quilting on the Snowflake quilt you could think about ghost snowflakes in the negative space, it could look quite effective.

  2. Love the quilts you finished. I don't worry about the productivity of other bloggers. I too do what I can and am quite happy with what I get done.

  3. Both your quilts are stunning! I love those snowflakes, and I'm sure that negative space will look beautiful when you're done, just remember we quilt because we enjoy it, don't stress yourself about other people, just have fun doing what you do, and you doing t so well! 😀

  4. Your two quilts are gorgeous. I love the "swarm" triangles and the idea name-corresponding of the butterflies and bees for the backing. The snowflake quilt is amazing as well. Those difficult blocks and love the modern attitute with the nagative space. Hope you get well soon and will enjoy the quilting in the end.

  5. I love your quilts! I have not yet had the nerve to try to Y-seams. I know what you mean about getting depressed by the gobs of quilts others finish. For me, it is not so much that I am comparing myself to them, as it is that I have SO MANY quilts I want to make, techniques to try and skills to build but with my limited time, it feels like I will never come close. Sigh. So I set goals and do what I can. I have been working on my giant pile of WIPs and am vowing to be more thoughtful about the projects I start after I get them done.
