I found a couple of bolts of Heather Ross' Mendocino Mermaids in a local quilt shop. On sale. For $9.95/m AUD. (Yes, that sounds like a lot to Americans. Trust me, when the brand fabrics cost a minimum of $22.95/m, then $9.95/m is cheap.) It’s out of print and can’t be found for love, although it can be found for ridiculous amounts of money on Etsy.
Needless to say, upon digging through every other bolt in the shop, I bought the bolts on the spot.
That's:
1 x ½ metre of Swimming Sisters in fuschia
1 x ½ metre of Mermaids in gold
1 x ½ metre of Kelp in blush
note: (½ metre is about 19” – just over half a yard)
As will be obvious from the picture, my house and quilting room is not a cat free environment and I cannot guarantee that there will be no cat hairs on the fabric or in the package. Enter in the giveaway at your own risk of allergic reaction!

oh my goodness! that is an INCREDIBLE find!!!!! i have a tiny scrap of the mermaid fabric, and my daughter is always asking me to get more and make her something!
ReplyDeletei don't know why, but i always remember the time my family stopped at an antique store for a break from our road trip - i was eight, and i found a big, rusty old 'skeleton' key. i spent my saved allowance to buy it; $12. i put it on a red ribbon & used to wear it. then i had it on my wall for a while. i know it is around somewhere. i think of it sometimes and feel like i need to see it again. it has become some sort of talisman!
thanks for the chance.
What a great score. I found a great Lizzy House print at Spotlight on sale for $11 a metre a couple of weeks ago - you can be sure I snapped it up too! Please count me in!
ReplyDeleteBest. Score. Ever. Lucky you! One of my favorite scores has been my car. I had been looking for just the right one for a while, with no luck. Then, several days after I had given up, the perfect one showed up! I have a long commute to work each day, and it's made a lot more enjoyable by my new (to me!) car. Thanks for the chance to win!

i've never had a good fabric find...but i've had some great clothing scores at the outlets near my college!
ReplyDeleteAmazing find! I think the best find I had was on a pair of Skechers twinkle toe shoes for my daughter. They were retailing for $50, but I found a pair on clearance at the factory store for $6. She was pretty happy!
ReplyDeleteWow, great find! I have found Henry Alexander prints for about 3$US and was quite happy with it. Yep, it did involve some diggin' on my part...
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted some of this fabric! My favorite score has to be my couches. I found my white sofa and love seat in perfect condition at an estate sale for only $150.
ReplyDeleteWe found an amazing bookcase at the local second hand furniture store - it was just prefect for my huge collection of books! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteGreat fabric!! would soooooooo love this. my best buy.....hmmmmmmmmmmmm;I would have to say it was the dress I got in lancaster this fall....the Dress Barn had 70% off! I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteoh my wow!! I love thrift store finds and found two fabulous chairs recently for only $15 each- they are upholstered rocking chairs and are soooo comfy!
ReplyDeleteI have a bad memory, but I was pretty excited to find some mismarked adidas pants at a big retail store yesterday. They will be a gift and I was able to get my sister-in-law two pairs because of their mistake. Score!
ReplyDeleteSome awesome vintage clothes at a thrift store.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I've never scored an incredible find (well, maybe my husband) but I do have recurring dreams of bags upon bags of beautiful wool sweaters for felting for $1 a bag. Hoping that dream comes true someday!
ReplyDeleteThat is an excellent find in, even in US prices!! I found a set of Dream On FQs at a small local shop by my parents house. I was so excited, I dug through their whole pile to see if I could find any more. I didn't, but I scooped it up and was very happy I did so! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh my. I *just* got done saying that Mendocino Mermaids needs to be in my stocking this year. That was a SERIOUS score.
ReplyDeleteBest find? Hmmm. I have a bad memory, so I'll share my latest awesome Christmas shopping purchase. There were would blocks on clearance and I had a ten dollar coupon, so I only paid $2 for the whole box. Yee haw!
I don't have a best find, but I do have a best trade. I just traded a friend 1.5 FQ bundles of Notting Hill for a jelly roll of Neptune. She wouldn't let me give more!!
ReplyDeleteMy best score was a pair of Dr. Martens for $25. Brand new. Blue suede boots. I wore them into the ground.
ReplyDeletesweet! That is a pretty awesome find.
ReplyDeleteI have a related one (though I don't know if it's a find, really):
when I first found modern fabric and Etsy, I bought yardage of Heather Ross's horses in light blue -yardage! for $6 a yard. I bought it because it was on sale and lovely - and then kept it because I could never figure out how to do it justice. Imagine my surprise 2 years later when I go to find some coordinating prints and it's worth 8x what I paid for it! Crazy.
I also found some Heather Ross a few years ago for $5 per yard (the tadpoles.) Score!
ReplyDeleteI love Cats on Quilts and Fabric. I have 3 cats of my own so I know what it's like.
ReplyDeleteWow - what a fabulous fabric find! Nice score! And so generous a giveaway!
ReplyDeleteDoes it count that I've found lots of four leaf clovers? You'd think that'd make me lucky, unfortunately, not so much!!
I crocheted a tiny snowman for my friend. :)
ReplyDeleteOh what a find! A bit like the good folks I managed to find in an Aussie quilt shop ;o) - had to pay full price though!
ReplyDeleteLove finding new Aussie blogs :o)
Oh gosh, I guess I've been living in a cave, hehe. I will say though in my year of reading blogs my knowledge of different fabrics and designers has grown. I have heard of Heather Ross, just didn't know she was so sought after. My find was at a thrift store. I found a quilt that had been loved alot, code for some damage, for $15. I took it to one of my teachers and she thought it was from the 1930-40's.
ReplyDeleteThank you for a great giveaway and a chance to win.
usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com
Wow-that is a find! How very generous of you to share! I found a bunch of Tula Pinks first line ever Full Moon Forewt at a little shop. It's out of print and I bought quite a bit of it!
ReplyDeleteI am so envious of your find! I LOVE Heather Ross. My favorite find was some sweet Washi the on Saturday actually.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is quite the find. I was pretty thrilled when I found some Neptune fabric at a new fabric store a few months ago!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great find. I once found some Heather Ross seahorse fabric on ebay for $5 a yard
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness grace that is an amazing find !!
ReplyDeleteI found some too in a quilt shop in Montreal one day.. I was quite happy and it allowed me to start my stash :)
Nice find!!! I live in the country, so I haven't scored an awesome fabric find yet, but I did venture into the clearance aisle at our local TJ Maxx and found a Dooney bag on clearance - go me!
ReplyDeleteSeriously?! $9.95 - no wonder you bought the whole bolt!!! My favourite find would have to be the time I found my engagement ring in the couch cushions after giving up hope 4 months after losing it. I was cleaning the couch to give it away to charity....boy am I glad I cleaned it first!!
ReplyDeleteI found over 2 yards of Henry Glass for $2.00 (the whole piece!)
ReplyDeleteYaY!! Value Village!!
WOW! What an amazing find. And you are even more amazing for sharing it! I would have horded it all for myself.
ReplyDeleteI was really happy to find a Heather Ross print (gnomes) for a quilt I was making for my sister. Same story...out of print and like $30-$40 a yard on Etsy and I found it for about $15 a yard on Ebay. Yess!
Crossing my fingers...

Mouth. Open. In. Shock! What a score!! I'm certainly revelling in how cheap designer fabrics are here compared to Australia!
ReplyDeleteOMG, that is an amazing find! I have been searching for these fabrics for a long time and they're so expensive now. I would be willing to buy them from you or do a trade for them if I don't win. Thanks for the giveaway! Hope I win.
ReplyDeleteOoooo you lucky lady - such a find! I felt the same way not too long ago when I got a tin of four Moda mini charm packs from 4 years ago...buried treasure!
ReplyDeleteOops, I got so excited about the fabric, that I forgot to leave a story about my best find.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I were shopping at the REI store in Chicago one time over Labor Day weekend and I found a Mountain Hard Wear down jack marked down from $230 for $70. I couldn't believe it. I've never found a deal like that before.
Oh the best find ever - fabric related? Would have to be My friend Emily and my Chicago Modern Quilt Guild! (She'd probably blush then laugh at me for saying so)... but I stalked the group online for the first year of it's existence... then finally asked in their online forum if anyone would be willing to give me a ride to the next meeting - Emily did- we've been friends ever since. And, well she has my name which makes sending emails funny. :)
ReplyDeleteNot a 'find', per se...but I lucked out enough to be one of the first people in my town to buy seats for a U2 concert....great seats, awesome show, and a SUPER surprise for my military husband away in Iraq!
ReplyDeleteShopping at a thrift store and finding Star Wars Monopoly for my husband last Christmas. Probably one of his favorite board games now, lol.
ReplyDeletedestlair(at)yahoo(dot)com
Finding some swimmingsister in blush. My hands actually trembled a bit! Know what I mean? :)
ReplyDeleteThere was a lady who was moving out of her 5 bedroom home to go live on a boat so her garage sale had all her fabric. You could fill a brown paper sack and it was $5 for all of it. It wasn't all modern, but for that price, I couldn't resist! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing!!! I have never found any of this beautiful fabric in person...and it's crazy expensive to order!! My best find was 4 Neptune charm packs for $7 each! Thanks so much for the chance to win :o)
ReplyDeleteI broke one of my mom's "special" wine glasses once. So I was in the store looking to replace it. I found 3 boxes of 4 glasses each, all miss marked at 9.99 when they clearly were supposed to be 99.99! Of course I bought all 3 boxes just in case of future breaks!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure this fabric giveaway would have to be the greatest find ever! Thank you! I love this fabric and have been kicking myself for not buying it when they were still making it. I hope I win!
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, my greatest find would probably be the anteater fabric I found on spoonflower. Expensive? Yes. But oh, so worth it.

Oh my goodness that is an incredible find! Nothing is more fun that finding a treasure- I love reading the other comments. Once at a garage slae I found the most amazing vintage letterpress machine for $15. Total score!
ReplyDeleteSweet find! My best one? My wonderful, fun, sensitive, smart husband of 37 years!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance at this very generous giveaway!
The best find for me was more fabric from a discontinued line that I was using in a king-sized quilt for our bed...I miscut an entire row and desperately needed more...I almost cried when I found more several states away...yay internet!
ReplyDeleteI was given a sewing machine for free and hardly used! Hard to believe you found bolts of this material and on sale no less! Very generous to give away.
ReplyDeleteI received a sewing machine for free!! Awesome that you found bolts of this fabric and on sale!
ReplyDeleteMy best "find" would be 6 yards of a vintage camel print by a Finnish designer - worth probably $75/yard now!! WOO! I'm saving it to make pillows when I get the couch of my dreams in a couple years. :)
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm giving away HR Mendocino too! My best find ever was (like you) the end of a bolt of brown Mendocino seahorses in a fabric shop in Hawaii. It was about 7 yards. And that was this year! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI went to a garage sale at a local theatre and they were selling all the fabric they hadn't used in the year at $.10 meter. I got the most beautiful piece of vintage cotton, black background with red roses on it. From the 50's. I am so excited to make myself something with it!
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Goodness. Heather Ross is the absolute Bestest! You lucky girl you! That reminds me that I have to remember to go and poke around this tiny little store in my hometown when I go home for Christmas, they have a back room chock-full of fabric, it's a bit of a mission to dig through, but so fun, and usually worth it! don't know if it counts as a find, but I'll always remember the year we were totally broke, and my hubby's birthday was coming up, I so wanted to get him something he would love, he is so good to me! I ended up winning tickets a week before his birthday to a Justin Timberlake concert, backstage passes and all, and his favourite musician at the time! Needless to say, we had a great time, and still have wonderful memories of a great night together, which is the most important thing, memories are forever!
ReplyDeleteI found a really cool, super rare, mod doll house from the 60's, at a garage sale, for $5!!!
ReplyDeletelimor477 at aol dot com
I bought a vintage baseball board game for fifty cents at a yard sale and sold it on eBay for seventy-five dollars. That was pretty sweet, but I think your find was much better!
ReplyDeleteI found a gorgeous doll house at the thrift store for $10. Then I sold our old dollhouse on Craig's list for $20. So I made a $10 profit and got a much better house! I think it would be over $100 new.
ReplyDeleteThat's an easy question. My best find EVER was/is my husband. He's the most supportive and encouraging husband with everything I want to pursue. He's my own personal cheering squad.
ReplyDeleteBest score is my 3 piece sewing desk for 75 bucks at the thrift store. I hate buying anything new!
ReplyDeletethats an AMAZING find!!! wow, hmm my best find was my boyfriend.. i've never met someone who gets me like he does.. i'm truly blessed.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on that deal! That was a lucky day!
ReplyDeleteI stumbled across a baby sling a Seven for under $1. Turns out they sell for $40! Insane! I wanted the fabric but decided to give it to a friend who has a baby.
An amazing find and in Oz as well. I've never found any HR in an Oz store. I did however find 50% of HR fabrics online recently and snapped some up.
ReplyDeleteOur solid oak kitchen table was an awesome find, on clearance for about $350- we still love it.
ReplyDeleteI just found out that the big department store in town carries Flea Market Fancy. I just used up my FQ bundle and now I can always get more! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOne of my best finds was a $5 dressy trench coat for my mom.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately no best find ever stories,I just started sewing in the last year and am still scared of expensive fabrics, almost everything I sew with is either thrifted or gifted.
ReplyDeleteThat really is an amazing find! Wow!
ReplyDeleteOne of my best finds is a brown woollen knee-length skirt that I got at a local thrift store for about 10€ years and years ago. It goes well with pretty much everything I own, and it's become the most staple of staples in my wardrobe. I don't know what I'll do once it becomes too worn to be worn anymore.
Eh we can't have the cat? that's too bad... Hahaha! Well I have no best find till now since I just started sewing and hoarding fabrics:) and I have this bad habit of trying to convince myself not to buy those fabrics that I want when it's on sale, believing that I should save money and not be that materialistic only to still wanting them when they sold out and not on sale anymore lol which leaves me with no choice but to buy them afterwards at more expensive price:p silly right!!
ReplyDeleteThe best find fabric-wise for me.... Recently I found out that Tuesday Morning (sort of similar to a Marshalls but more with just stuff and not so much clothing) sells slightly imperfect Riley Blake fabrics under the name Sugar Hill (or something like that) - from what I read online, the color is slightly off. But it's super cheap!
ReplyDeleteFrom the comment above me - Tuesday Morning sells fabric? There is one of those near here but I've never gone in. Going today.
ReplyDeleteMy best find is a pair of Ferragamo shoes in perfect condition in the thrift store for $4.99.
My bed find was my sweet husband... although he really found me :)
ReplyDeleteThe first time I went shopping for fabric after discovering modern designers, I had 3 yards of DS FMF in Pink Barbells for $5/yard. I bought it all. I have always dreamed of finding Mendocino on sale, that is a great find.
ReplyDeleteWow, that was a real find you made! And you are willing to part with some of it? Best find for me was getting a hold of a full set of Women's Day Encyclopedia of Cookery (ca 1971?) used, for about fifty bucks. I had sold my set when I moved over to Sweden, and regretted it ever since. A chance to do over, at a good price was wonderful!
ReplyDeletemy best find was definitely at a LQS in Iowa. i found several Katie Jump Rope prints for $8/yd after it was long gone online.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing find! I once found two bolts of canvas at the thrift store for $3 each. The canvas was great quality and I was able to make a few bags out of each color. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteWould love to win that beautiful fabric!
ReplyDeleteMy best find: Many moons ago I needed an old pot to use for dying reed to make baskets. All my pots were too new from being newly married...so I decided to try some yard sales. I'd NEVER been to a yard sale before!
Well, I went around to all the homes having yard sales in my neighborhood, and on the last one I found a dingy old pot for 25 cents. I was ecstatic! Just what I needed! I took it up to the man just beaming and gave him my money. He must have thought I was almost homeless to be that excited over finding a simple pot. I remember the pity in his eyes. I took that pot home and used it for dying reeds for many baskets. I still remember that great find many years later.:)
If I won this fabric, THAT would be the BEST!
ReplyDeleteYou lucky duck! I love finding fabric deals.
ReplyDeleteonce didn't have enough fabric to finish a quilt and happen to find the exact fabric in an Amish country store in the middle of no where.
ReplyDeleteWonderful find! My best fabric find was this past year, I had been looking for this 30s repro print by marcus brothers that had these crazy-eyed bunnies on them for years. Every time I went into a quilt shop I looked, by no luck. Finally this year I popped into a new-to-me quilt shop and found a whole bolt! Needless to say I bought it all! Thanks for the great giveaway! :)
ReplyDeleteWOW - that is an amazing find and I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that it finds its way to my house! :) Thanks for being so generous and sharing with one of us lucky commenters!!
ReplyDeleteMy best fabric find... someone posted on flikr that a local shop had the HR Mendocino fuschia octopus print for a reasonable price. I contacted the shop and they sold it to me at a discount because there was a fade mark and I ended up with a couple yards of it. Come to find out, the fade mark was only on the first yard from where that was folded and exposed to the sun, so after cutting that yard into FQs, I had another perfectly good 1-2 yards without any fading AND I got it at a NORMAL price! JACKPOT :) Love that print!
Awesome find! My best find has been at this Link

ReplyDeleteOne of my best finds was when I was trying to finish up a quilt made in Ruby, hit the LQS and found it in the clearance section. I was thrilled!
ReplyDeleteLove that fabric (cute cat, too!).
ReplyDeleteMy best find? I bought a rag doll at the thrift store (to re-sell) and inside the had was about $10 in really tiny folded up dollar bills.
I picked up a Hinterberg quilting frame for $20 and a Featherweight at a garage sale for $10!!!
ReplyDeleteWow lucky duck! I can't remember what may have been the best find of my life, but I CAN say that my best find this season has been the perfect snowglobe for my daughter. It fits all her requirements in a snoglobe and it was only $9 (US)
ReplyDeleteGreat find! Mine was this summer at a garage sale I found 12 vintage wine glasses that went with the set that matched my great grandmothers that i have! $15! thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm making a quilt out of this fabric and have been searching for extra pieces! Best find would have to be some antique pottery at a yard sale for $5.
ReplyDeleteI've probably had better finds but the one that comes to mind is when a fabric store here in town was going out of business. As I was standing at the counter they happened to find 3 bolts of amazing fabric hidden in the back and I was able to snag all 3 bolts at a ridiculous price.
ReplyDeleteA pink cashmere sweater in my size for $8? Yes please.
ReplyDeleteI found the perfect cuff links for my husband while looking for my sister's birthday present on Etsy - surprise for me!
ReplyDeleteI bought Kids of Catan for $2! It sells for nearly $55. Thanks for the giveaway!

ReplyDeleteI've never had a great fabric find, but I love thrift stores and have found lots of great clothing finds!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I found a great MidCentury Modern chair for $5, and had so much fun refinishing it together!

I love this fabric! Thanks for a wonderful giveaway! I'm going with a selfish story about a dress I love. I fell in love with a Lilly Pulitzer dress, but couldn't afford it. One day online I saw it for sale, but it was still too expensive. So not long after that I made a point to go to the store where the dress was on super sale, but the wrong size. Not only did they have cupcakes and candy for everyone, they were able to order my size from another store and have it delivered to my house wrapped in pretty tissue paper. I smile every time I look in the closet!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first started sewing I managed to snatch up a huge box of Amy Butler remnants for around $100. I still have most of them now that I think about it. I would LOVE to have this fabric in my stash!
ReplyDeleteWow. lucky you. And lucky us.
ReplyDeleteWhen I took a serger class, I realized I only had knit fabrics brought. The teacher told me to search the fabric waste basket - and I found a piece of really, really cute fabric I didn't wanted to use to practice on. She told me I could keep it and that, if I wanted to, could keep on searching in the trash bin for mor fabric *shame*
I am crazy I know :-)
Greetings,
Tina
Wow! What a find! My best find was an Orla Kiely handbag in mint condition for 5 euros in a charity shop :)
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous fabrics and adorable feline. I have two of my own so a little extra fur from across the pond will not be an issue. lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win.
kj_hahn(at)telus(dot)net
hmm, best find? I'd have to say fabric on clearance for 1.99/m. It coordinated perfectly with my daughter's newly decorated room and she loved it. When does that ever happen?
ReplyDeletemy girls would go gaga over the mermaids. thanks for the chance!
i love finding fabric at thrift stores... it's usually pretty cheap!
ReplyDeleteMy current best thrift store find was a pair of Dansko heels for US$12.
ReplyDeleteAs much fabric as I could carry home from a yard sale for $10. I think I had about three large Ikea bags full.
ReplyDeleteI just find the complete collection of Lizzy House Castle Peep. I can't wait to received the parcel...
ReplyDeleteOw lucky you to be in the Material Obsession swap day. Wish I was nearer by!!!!! I I never had such a great score!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI once found some a vintage screen print of giant turtles with daisy hats on a bright yellow background in a thrift store. I made beach bags.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Heather Ross-- how awesome.
ReplyDeleteI have had some pretty cool finds in the day. A few years ago, I was at a quilting show, and one random booth had Oliver & S clothing patterns for half off. Those never go on sale, so I definitely scooped them up!

I think my best find was my car. It retailed for $4000 more than I paid, so I was pretty stoked!
ReplyDeleteI dream of fabric finds like this one though!
Wow, awesome find!
ReplyDeleteI got a 2 foot quilting hoop in a Charity (Op) Shop for £10.
Thanks for the chance x
My favorite find is our house. The people's financing fell through and we were able to get it.

Only 1 find?? I think my best one so far has been a brand new Anthropologie bed spread for $15 in a little second hand boutique shop. The lady obviously didn't know what she had!! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteohhhhh those are such lovely printings!!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't find something that interesting... I bought cute fabric and yarn when I was in Praha 'cause it costed 25% of the price here!
When the original Alexander Henry Ghastlies collection came out I had just started quilting and couldn't justify stocking up, so I got a measly half metre of just one print from the collection. A few months later I still really wanted the Ghastlies, and finally came up with some awesome ideas for making a quilt. So off I went to my local quilt shop, just to discover that it was sold out, just like it was most places online. Oh no! But a few months ago I was in another quilt shop and I found a few bolts of it hiding way in the back. YAY! Now, of course, I'm too scared to cut into it because I know there won't be any more.
ReplyDeleteFabulous find!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't get to visit many real fabric shops since I don't have a car in the daytime so no great fabric finds for me. The daytime car stealer is my husband and he was the best find ever! I cheekily approached him and said hello and since that moment he has swept me off my feet. We married 5 months after we met and nearly 6 years later I still get butterflies when I see him. I am even smiling like a fool while typing this!!
What an incredible find. I found some scraps (as in so small they might not be usable) of the mermaids this summer in a scrap box and I was happy then. Thanks for participating in the giveaway day.
ReplyDeleteoh love that fabric! I was so happy when I found an old folding wooden twin bench...hard to explain but i had been wanting one forever and was so thrilled to find one!
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing find! I would have scooped up the bolts too! I have yet to find anything really good, except for a bolt end of Kona Blue (1 yard) and everything in the bin was $1.
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing and very generous of you! The best find was a pair of designer jeans that usually retail for over $200 for $10.
ReplyDeleteI had a great find over the summer. I have an old cuisinart food processor that I have been having to replace part on it. Chopping blade for $20-30, stem for $20, etc. I found a box of almost new parts for $5. New disks that I didn't need got sold and I kept the blade and stem. Ended up making money on the deal.
ReplyDeleteThe greatest find for me was when I discovered the online community of sewers and quilters. I still remember finding one blog and another and another and seeing all the fabrics and tutorials. I was so excited I couldn't sleep for days!
ReplyDeleteOh oh oh - what an amazing giveaway!!! Ok - my bess find was an ice cream tub FULL buttons at a car boot sale. I got it for 2 pounds sterling when I would have paid 10 quid for it. Lucky or what? I adore buttons so it really was the find of a lifetime - especially consdering 4 buttons on a strip cost nearly 3 pounds in the shops so I did REALLY well!!
ReplyDeleteOh my, i think i know the place you got these. I searched all through their online store- no more Mendocino that i could find. It's cause you got it!!! YOU got the the score. Best finds are usually at the op shop for me.
ReplyDeletexoxx s
I have never had a good fabrics find :D The last I have is 2 meters of white solids in the remnant area at my local craft store :D
ReplyDeleteOh me oh my--I am an Aussie too so can only marvel and wonder and get a little green eyed about your find (and perhaps wonder where you live and if I should stalk you...)--Best find for me would have to be a Royal Dolton tiny tea set in an op shop that was oh so cheap and oh so pretty--lucky me!!
ReplyDeleteOh WOW!! That is a great find!! I'm still waiting for a great fabric find to happen to me!!
ReplyDeleteMy greatest find has to be my husband. Nobody gets me or puts up with me like he does! 14 yrs and counting!
Thanks for the great giveaway!!
Earlier in the year I was having a "me party" day near San Diego. I sat at a coffee shop and read, walked along the beach, scoped out interesting stores... Well, in one thrift shop I found two antique "Wonderful World of Ohio" glasses. As an Ohio transplant I had to have them. I later found a third in an Amish country thrift store and now I'm obsessed with collecting them all.
ReplyDeleteOne of my best finds is probably our cat...an adorable, sweet, playful, purry, LARGE, maine coon named Chocolate Mousse...named so because she is brown and white, and I knew she'd grow up to be a Moose of a cat. (When I first met her, as a kitten, my first thought was...that isn't a kitten, that's an adolescent cat!)
ReplyDeleteMy best fabric find was a piece of Amy Butler fabric at a thrift store a few years ago. I was so excited!!
ReplyDeleteMy dad loves to get tricky with presents. One year he gave mom mo sister and I each an envelope. Each had a clue we had to figure out. It was actually like a riddle poem. It finally led to three window ornaments made of wood and hung with ribbon on the tree. Dad was giving me replacement windows he knew I needed! He is very crafty and handy! I get it naturally! I decorated them and now hang them on my tree each year as I stay snuggly warm in my home with energy efficient windows! http://www.flickr.com/photos/luckyduckdreams/5265953563/in/set-72157625610943402/
ReplyDeleteI was so happy when I found 3 yards of Lush Paint by Number Deer- still haven't cut into it. I also was over the moon when I found som yellow KJR ribbon flowers.
ReplyDeletei finally found julia childs cookbook while thrifting!!
ReplyDeleteI found a milk bottle in an antiqueshop from the dairy I used to visit when I was a baby.
ReplyDeleteBest find I ever found was actually a quilt shop going out of business......fabric was $3.50 a yard for big name designers too.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I ever visited my local quilt shop in South Carolina they had a oop Oliver + S pattern that I had been searching for all over. The best part is that it was on sale for 1/2 the normal price.
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a great giveaway.

Beautiful fabric! I love finding treasures at thrift stores -- some lovely handknit sweaters, and a vintage quilt top are some of the things that stand out.
ReplyDeleteThat was an amazing lucky find! I just found four teak dining chairs that match my existing chairs almost perfectly, they were in a thrift store, so they were about a quarter of what they would be in an antique store - I was thrilled! Love, love Mendocino, so I'm going to cross my fingers!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing find. I am an Aussie too. Newcastle NSW.
ReplyDeleteMy best find would be a skip bin that a family were clearing out their late mothers house into. Turns out she was a seamstress and we found some of the most amazing things including fabric, tanned furs, ric rak, trims, oodles of tread, a beautiful little shallow draw chest which my mum is still using as a sewing cabinet. It was amazing trust me - we asked and they said take what you like we are just sending it to the tip tomorrow so we skip dived for hours and found amazing treasures.
Haha, I am allergic to cats, but for that gorgeous fabric, I will risk it! My best find ever was my sewing machine. An old Bernina sitting in a second hand store, waiting to be loved.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway!
Aw, but I want the kitty! Very awesome find, and what great fabric. I think my best score was either a giant trash bag stuffed with scraps (including two bolts of linen) for $20 or a large fish tank and all the fixings for a small bag of crazy quilt supplies.
ReplyDeleteI found flea market fancy fabric on sale... years before the reprint but when it was htf online. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty astonishing find (and a great price - we have a similar price problem here in Canada). I've love to stumble over something that brilliant in a quilt shop some day!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever had a really great find in a store, I don't seem to have much luck scoring great things at surprising prices.

My favorite find was a printers tray I got for a few dollars at a garage sale :)

Whoa--you did score! I found some Lizzy Dish fat quarters at JoAnn's once. Pretty nice. And my daughter & I found UGG slippers in her size at a local thrift shop for $12! She nearly did cartwheels out of the store!
ReplyDeleteSorry---forgot my info!
ReplyDeleteAnd, Thank you for the giveaway!

wooooooow. Wow. Wow. Nice score! Thanks for sharing some with one of us! I can't remember my BEST deal, but I will say I just got a computerized Janome for $125 because it wasn't working right and I drove 2 hours one way because she said it was in excellent condition. I took the risk whether it could be fixed, and it could! Hooray. I *think* I got a good deal when it was all said and done. But I was biting my nails about it.
ReplyDeleteI found a vintage Bernina for $200. I bought it though I wasn't looking for a new machine. She was just so pretty. Later, I saw the same machine on eBay selling for over $900! No way I'm going to sell her though. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI think my best find would have to be some of Kate Spain's 12 Days of Christmas at my local Textile Traders.. they were closing down so they could open a store even *closer* to my house... and they had it on clearance for $4/m!! They also had some Sunkissed by Sweetwater and a few Minick & Simpson prints... needless to say, I came home with about 20m of fabric!
ReplyDeleteWow, what an amazing find. Lucky you!!! I was actually in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago and found some Nicey Jane for $2 a FQ...Since I have never even seen that fabric in NZ, I grabbed it. Prices are just as bad here for fabric as well, so that was a great score for me.
ReplyDeleteGreat to have another blog to follow along to.
Great find, and how lovely of you to share it. Thanks for the chance to win. My best find ever was my Bernina QE at a lqs where we used to live. It was only a year old and the same as the brand new one beside it, but less than half the price and included lots of accessories that I would have had to buy separately if I bought a new machine. I have no idea who spent that much on a machine and then decided quilting wasn't for her after all, but I thank her hugely!
ReplyDeleteI love op shopping and my best ever find was a huge set of mobilo construction for my son for $2.
ReplyDeleteYour score is awesome! Fabric nirvana!
I chanced across a mention of a craft festival in Toronto and now that's where I've bought most of my fabric from.
ReplyDeleteI made my daughter a quilt of this colorway, she has been begging me to make her a matching pillow because it is ooh so soft, this would be soooo loved at my house! I started the quilt because I found a meter of it at the second hand store for $1.75!! just starting quilting I had no idea what I was getting myself into, so yeah the rest of the quilt got quite expensive :) quilt fabric is just as expensive here in Canada, its way cheaper for me to buy online and have it shipped.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite find has been a pair of birkenstock garden clogs for 5 dollars at a thrift store. I wore them for 5 years before they fell apart!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win this beautiful fabric, my daughter would be SO happy if I made her something from it!
fun!
ReplyDeletei do a lot of thrift store clothes shopping for my kids. a month or so ago, i found a pair of charlie brown christmas new balance sneakers in my son's current size. and, they were almost brand new. it was pretty exciting.
(follow up to the story: my sister has a daughter a year older than my daughter and handed down a matching pair for her to wear, so now my son and daughter roll with matching cbrown new balances!).
This fabric is so so so pretty! Shame about not getting the cat too!
ReplyDeleteI don't have an amazing fabric find- boo! - so I will go all cheesy and say my best ever find is my lovely man :)
I was in Taiwan on business with my husband and happened upon a little fabric store on an odd little street. I got some linen for almost nothing - so crazy!
ReplyDeleteI found a 6 half yard bundle of Amy Butler fabric clearanced for $12. I was excited!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite fabric find was some way old Amy Butler in the $5 clearance section at a LQS.
ReplyDeleteBest find was a copy of Robert Stephenson's 'The Farm' at my local auction house - I'd been looking for several years!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! I'm going to be geeky and say my best find was my DH who I found in London (I'm Canadian), and we celebrated 40 years together!
ReplyDeleteWe have this annual neighborhood yard sale (very old neighborhood in New Jersey, USA). Last year I found some vintage sheets, a huge box of them. I picked one out and asked how much. She said you can take the whole box for $5.00!!!! What a find!!! I didn't even flinch and gave her the $5.00. :)

I can usually score amazing fabric for about $2 per half yard at a monthly flea market off the coast of San Francisco on a little island called Treasure Island. It's so fun as you never know what you'll find!
ReplyDeleteBest fabric find was an amzaing huge vintage sheet I found a while back. it's really bright and funky!
ReplyDeleteOh wow thanks for this chance - so nice of you to share!
ReplyDeleteMy best find was a 3 pound scrap box on etsy that was FILLED with just-released top of the line fabrics - and the scraps were huge!
My best find ever was at a "yard sale" that an auction business was having. I arrived to find table after table of quilt books and quilt supplies, and inside the auction house (!!!) were boxes and boxes of cotton quilt fabrics -- many of them more expensive and higher quality than I could ever afford! Ohh, the joy! Needless to say, I ran and emptied my bank account, and came back and shopped and shopped. This was about 14 years ago, and I can still remember the excitment! I actually still have some of the fat quarters of batiks, and great memories.
ReplyDeleteMy best find was earlier this year. I found a bolt end in an Amsterdam fabric market with plaid Italian wool. That was nice. Made a coat with it. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

Holy crap! What a score! I once volunteered to help a freind clean out her grandmother's house and found yards of vintage fabric!
ReplyDeleteAwesome fabrics! My hubby and I were going on a cruise and I needed a gown for the formal night dinner. I knew I would, most likely, never wear the dress again. We really don't go to those kinds of functions. I found a Jessica McClintock gown that was absolutely perfect for $15.00 on the clearance rack! Big Score!
ReplyDeleteMy DH, we met when I was leaving the party already because I didn't like it there, but then I stayed until the end. :-)
ReplyDeletegreat find! i'm not sure i have any real great finds. i love a good sale, though. thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteKITTY!!
ReplyDeleteMy best find was actually my husband's, speaking of cats. He worked for a furniture company. He delivered furniture to one place and brought home my very sweet, very loving cat.
When I was 18 and traveling overseas for a bit of an informal gap year and on a day where I was feeling extra broke and maybe regretting my decisions and homesick and just miserable, I found an American penny on the beach. It had a heart-shaped hole poked through the middle of it. 18 years later, I still have that penny. It's on my keychain and I see it every day.
ReplyDeleteMy best find was applique quilt blocks and the material to finish the quilt in my mom's closet that were my grandmothers with the 1938 pattern included with it. I am working on finishing the quilt.
ReplyDeleteI purchased a used MacBook for my daughters. It was reasonably priced and came loaded with software. The look on my daughters' faces on Christmas day was priceless. They were so happy. The MacBook is still working well and well loved. Thanks for the great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThis Canadian totally understands the $22.95 per metre price tag. I'm always drooling over these fabrics but cannot afford an entire dress made of one.
ReplyDeleteRecently at one of our charity shops I got a Diane von Furstenberg silk dress for three dollars (they retail for appx. $300). Best find ever for me!
The best find Ive made is my SO. He is wonderful and supportive and doesn't much mind my fabric habits.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for your find and thanks for your generosity in sharing! I found matching glasses to a pitcher I inherited from my Grandmother which was a special find for me...
ReplyDeleteMy whole life we have had these tiny wooden Angel Orchestra pieces that we bring out for Christmas... A couple of years ago I found one little horn player in a store and we didn't even have it! So I bought it and surprised my parents with it :)
ReplyDeleteMy best find probably has to be a little quilt shop going out of business and I got the beautiful blue and pink fabric (for myself!) at $3.50 a yard!!!! It was marked off about 75%!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have found a few gems at Carboot sales, mainly children's bits. One of my pupils dug up a WW2 medal I think it was a star of Africa, given to all servicemen that were stationed in Africa during the war. He found it in our outside area, the school was built on reclaimed land that was once a gravel pit so we have no idea how it got there!
ReplyDeleteMaybe not incredible, but I was so happy to find 100% cotton jeans in my size at the thrift store. I still don't understand why everyone like lycra in theirs.
ReplyDeleteMy best find was definitely meeting up with my husband on eharmony seven years ago. What a treasure! :)
ReplyDeleteI also foundcsome fabric by Heather Ross, the one with the turtles and frogs, on a market, bought to little of it, regretted it ever since....
ReplyDeleteI think I'll happily risk allergic reaction for such fabric ;)
ReplyDeleteWe don't have any brick and mortar fabric shops to speak of where I live, but I managed to find some soft cotton just the right shade of yellow for the backing of my Grandma's quilt.
Found Castle Peeps at a discount fabric store - LOVE! Thanks for the fab giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI found tula pink neptune hidding in a shop near my parents house. I bought about $300 dollars worth I still think my husband considers evil thoughts about me because of it.
ReplyDeleteTo bad about the cat :-(
ReplyDeleteI found some black and white fabric at a fabric shop that was in their clearance section. The quality was above average and I doubled checked with the girl who assured me it was indeed $4 CDN a metre.
I promptly bought 7 metres. I used it for a back on a panda quilt I made. I still have lots left :-)
P.S. - I saw it at the same shop months later for $17 CDN metre.
It was an amazing deal.
Kay
I bought a couple yards of Heather Ross's Dream Bike fabric on sale for $5.99 a yard just before it was discontinued! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWow, what an awesome find!!!! I once found some HR west hill stripe in a local shop for $5. a yard! Yeah, I bought it all!! :)
ReplyDeleteI just got some great jeans for $3 CAD - in fact, I went back and got a second pair exactly the same! haha Thanks for the chance to win, and no worries about the cat hair, I have 2 cats and a dog myself! jgemeroy(at)shaw(dot)ca
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway and you sure had a lucky find. I have no serious shopping finds, occasionally I see a bit of out of print Denyse Schmidt fabric at the fabric shop which I have bought but there is generally almost none left.
ReplyDeleteI have two of what I consider to be best finds:
ReplyDelete1) When I was in college (that was a few moons ago), people were just starting to get into shopping at resale shops... anyway, I found an old school Adidas warm up jacket (in perfect shape){the kind of adidas where the stripes are one big wide "ribbon" and not three separate stripes} AND, it only cost $3!
2) About a year ago, I found a Longaberger basket (just think very pricey) at the Goodwill for only $.49! {it's probably worth $10}
I got my vintage Singer 401 in the table at a thrift store for $10.
ReplyDeleteThe best recent find I've had is a pair of Vera Wang heels. I had bought a dress and was searching for the heels to match.. couldn't find them in my size. One month later, while randomly at the store, I found them in my size, on clearance for only $11!!
ReplyDeleteI live for "the find" by going to garage sales/estate sales.
ReplyDeleteOne occurred about a year ago for my nephew who had the misfortune to be born on the 18th of December. All of his requests sounded like what he was getting for a christmas present.
On a whim, I stopped at an moving sale after work Saturday and went through the entire house without finding anything. In the kids bedroom, I was looking through the toys, lifted some big stuff out of the way and discovered about a hundred dinosaurs. For one dollar. (end of sale = huge bargains.)
I found the dinosaur curtains I sewed for my son at home and made nephew a drawstring bag with cool hardware to store his dinosaur collection.
Thanks for the giveaway and please enter mine.
The other day I scored some blake riley fabrics marked way down for black friday weekend.
ReplyDeleteI wrote a blogpost about a recent Craigslist purchase I found--$5 for a whole ton of sewing supplies! Here it is, if you're curious:
