2016 Q3 Finish-Along: #5 - Curtains!

This post is for the 2016 Finish-along Q3.

So, it's been a while since I actually posted anything here. Sorry about that - I went on holiday and then work came back with a vengeance and... So many things going on! It's been a busy winter for me...and we're heading into spring.

However, let's talk domestic for a moment.

We moved into the house in late 2014, and one of the things I wished to do was make curtains for my room and the lounge/dining rooms. It is now 2016, and I've done most of the curtains in most of the rooms. Emphasis on 'most of':

The workroom curtains (technically it's *my* workroom since all my sister has is a filing cabinet in the corner, and she uses the dining room as her workspace):


The dining room curtains, which I finished just before I left to go on my 2016 Round-the-World trip:

And just this week I completed the living room side curtains with the Concerto quilt pattern by Alyssa of Pile O'Fabric:

When I get the rings for hanging in the windows, I'll take another photo and put it up here: stay tuned!

Now there's just the front window curtains to do - and those are the BIGGIES...

Q2 Finish-Along: Valley of the Kings

So, I got a few things on my Q2 Finish Along list off the list - the first item and the last item!

7. Valley Of The Kings

I've had this on my to-do list for far, far too long. I'm glad it's out.


Now I just have to get it quilted and sent off to the original recip. Or else gifted somewhere!

Q2 Finish-Along: The Snowflake Quilt

So, I got a few things on my Q2 Finish Along list off the list - the first item and the last item!

1. The Snowflake Quilt

This is me standing in front of it as it hangs in the Sydney Quilt Show:


This was entered in the Open Amateur part of the show, and titled "The Promises Of Spring" with the blurb: Every winter's flake carries the promise of summer within it.

Yes, I quilted it myself. The block was designed by Madame Parfait several years previously - the 'Rainbow Blossom' block, and I posted a tutorial for making the block back about three years ago, which I used to make these blocks. However, I've since had someone draft me a foundation paper piecing pattern, and as soon as I get back from my holidays, I'm going to turn it over to pattern testers and probably release it through Make Modern Magazine.

WIP Wednesday: the one on Thursday

So I'm a day late.

I put a post in for the 2016 Q2 Finish-a-long, listing the projects I aim to finish from April to June. Yes, there are a lot of them!

However, I've already completed one!

This fabric has been sitting around in my stash since 2009. At first I didn't know what to make with it; then I realised I wasn't as fond of the fabric as I initially thought. Then my style and ouvre changed and I couldn't think of a pattern I could do that would suit... And then it just got stashed away somewhere to gather dust.


I resurrected it a couple of years ago to make a quilt for an online friend who's gone somewhat AWOL in the last couple of years; I'm just not sure it's in her ouvre either!

Anyway, it's done.


Back it, quilt it, bind it, send it off!

WIP

#SewMyStash2016 has a bag challenge for April!

I've had my eye on making something in Sara Lawson's "Big City Bags" for a couple of years now - ever since I won the book in a random draw! I'd like to make one of the bigger bags, but figured I'd start small-ish.


So that's going to be my project for the next week! We'll see how it goes.

Also in the meantime, some scrappy log cabins with 2.5" scrap strips (mostly left overs from bindings and other jelly roll projects). Not sure I particularly like the look, but it's simple and easy to do, and makes some really good scrap quilts to give away.


May need to slice a few more coloured strips for the right colour mix...

A friend and I have been thinking about the state of the WIP Wednesday, and were thinking of running a regular WIP Wednesday link-up - most for Australians, but this is the intarwebs, so really for anyone who wants to get involved.

Still in thinking process, although we'll probably talk about it on the train tonight.

I won't get them all done, but I might as well list them so I know what I should be working on in the coming months!

2016 Finish: La Trivetiata

I've forgotten the name for these things... Oh, wait. Trivets! They're called TRIVETS.

At least they are around here. Don't know what other people call them.

The fabric has been sitting around since 2011, when I first started a quilt for my mother using RK's Imperial Collection 7 (I think). I trimmed down the tiny HSTs, sewed them together and then took forever to finish binding them. I'm awful that way.

Also, my old machine (a Brother NS50, which I originally was using for dressmaking when I turned to quilting) wasn't good for binding. My new machine (a Juki) binds quilts like a damn Trojan! (Or maybe it should be a Spartan? THIS IS BIIIIINDIIIIINGGGG!!!)

But they are FINISHED!


(And yet again, I have to work out what to do with them. They were to be a gift for a friend when I started them, but that boat has kinda sailed...)

2016 Finish: Honey Honey

At some point in the past, I may have given this quilt a cutesy name. However it's been so damn long that I don't actually remember what I called it.


The fabric is Kate Spain's Honey Honey from, oh, 2013? 2014? And the cream is (I think) Bella Solids (but I don't remember the colour). That's how long ago I did it, and how little I remember of it!

It's been sitting around with a backing and a batting for ages, and I simply didn't get to quilting it. I wanted to quilt it myself because of the large amounts of negative space, except...time. And opportunity. And a whole bunch of other things. Not least of which I decided that, having made this, I didn't actually like the fabric and colour choices anymore...

I am, however, quite proud of the quilting:


So, it's done, it's bound, and I have to work out what to do with it. Possibly give away as a gift? I feel kind of bad giving something away that I'm not satisfied with, even if it's a question of style and taste, and not one of quality.
